Sunny Chan
Massage Therapist
Background
With many years of solid and extensive hands-on massage experience, complemented by professional credentials as a former massage instructor for the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) in Hong Kong, I possess a profound understanding of the human body and therapeutic bodywork. Through years of practice, I have become highly proficient in accurately performing full-body massage, pain relief treatments, and manual realignment techniques. This wealth of experience has led to an in-depth mastery—beyond mere understanding—of traditional therapies such as acupressure, cupping, moxibustion, and foot reflexology. I am skilled at efficiently integrating and flexibly applying these methods, along with traction/gentle stretching and joint mobilisation, to specifically target and resolve client issues.Currently based in Manchester. Enquiries and bookings for massage services are welcome via private message (PM/DM).
Core Beliefs
Service Purpose :
Commitment to Professionalism :
Professional Techniques : Emphasising the application of rigorously trained massage techniques (such as Tui Na, Acupressure, Myofascial Release), integrated with anatomical knowledge, to precisely address muscle, fascial, and joint issues.
Personalized Assessment : Based on each client's specific circumstances (e.g., lifestyle habits, work stress, areas of physical discomfort, and potentially incorporating a preliminary assessment of constitutional tendency using Yin-Yang and Five Elements principles), a professional evaluation is conducted to provide the most suitable massage plan.
Safe and Effective : Ensuring all procedures are conducted with safety as the priority, in order to achieve optimal effects such as relaxation, pain relief, and improved circulation, among other benefits.
Energetic Wellness :
Functional Restoration : Massage is not merely relaxation; it is an active form of body conditioning. The goal is, through manual stimulation, to promote Qi and Blood circulation (TCM perspective), improve lymphatic flow, and accelerate the elimination of metabolic waste (modern medicine perspective), thereby helping the body restore its inherent vitality and function.
Boost Energy Levels : Relieving muscle stiffness and joint restrictions increases the body's flexibility and range of motion, helping you feel more energetic and better able to handle daily activities and exercise challenges.
Preventative Care : Regular massage aids in the early detection of potential underlying issues (such as excessive myofascial tightness or Qi stagnation/blockages), and through therapeutic intervention, helps prevent injury or the exacerbation of discomfort.
Health Philosophy :
Mind-Body Balance :
Recognising that physical tension and pain are often related to psychological stress and emotional states. Massage not only acts on the physical level but also, through touch and its relaxing effects, soothes the nervous system and alleviates mental stress, thereby achieving a state of mind-body balance. This resonates with the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) concept of 'jing4 san4 hap6 jat1' (the unity of body and spirit).
Holistic Health :
Health is not merely the absence of disease, but rather a holistic state characterised by vitality and comfortable ease. As a natural, non-invasive therapy, massage is one important way to achieve and maintain this state of holistic health. It focuses on 'the whole person', not just localised discomfort.
Comfortable, Happy, and Healthy Living :
Comfortable : Through massage, releasing the body's constraints (such as pain, stiffness, and fatigue), allowing people to move, work, and live more freely, unrestricted by physical discomfort.
Happy, and Healthy : When mind and body achieve balance and comfort, one can naturally experience the joy of life. A healthy body is the foundation for enjoying life and pursuing goals. The massage therapist's aim is to help clients rediscover this relaxed, joyful, and vibrant state of health, thereby enhancing their overall quality of life.
A Part of Lifestyle : Encouraging professional massage to be viewed as a proactive, healthy 'lifestyle investment', rather than merely a remedial measure taken after problems arise.
In summary :
The massage therapist's service mission is to apply professional knowledge and skills, not only to resolve current discomfort but also aiming to stimulate the body's inherent self-healing capabilities and vitality. The underlying health philosophy believes that mind-body balance is the cornerstone of health, and through professional body conditioning, the ultimate goal is to help each individual achieve an unrestricted, joyful state of healthy living. This represents a complete concept, extending from technical application to mind-body care, and ultimately to enhancing overall quality of life.
Inspirational Story
Throughout my many years as both a massage therapist and instructor, what has brought me the greatest satisfaction is undoubtedly witnessing those moments of mind-body transformation. These experiences have not only shaped my professional practice but have also deeply touched my heart.
I remember a client who loved dancing but had long been troubled by knots in her back and waist, which affected her range of motion and self-confidence. After my careful assessment, I used specific Tui Na techniques to provide deep release for her. Watching those stubborn knots gradually disappear felt like unlocking the body's shackles. What gratified me most, however, was when she later excitedly told me, 'When I dance, my body feels more fluid and light than ever before!' At that moment, I knew my work wasn't just about relieving pain, but about helping others rediscover their passion and joy in life.
Another time, a client was walking with great difficulty due to hip joint pain, which affected his daily life. I combined acupressure, cupping, and gentle mobilisation techniques to specifically address the tight muscle groups and the joint. Watching him go from initially frowning in discomfort to later having the pain gradually disappear and being able to move easily – that smile of sheer relief is the greatest affirmation for me.
And in the process of teaching, I have also experienced countless moving moments. Many students, after practising massage techniques on each other in class, often share with surprise: 'Instructor, just from practising on each other a few times, I feel so much more relaxed!' Seeing them not only learn the skills to help others but also personally experience the power of healing, and subsequently bring this wellness to more people – this joy derived from mutual learning and teaching (where teaching and learning benefit each other) is a major driving force for my continued dedication to this profession.
These individual stories, accumulated bit by bit, have converged to form my professional journey. They constantly remind me how meaningful it is to combine traditional wisdom with modern knowledge, and to touch and heal with intention and care.
